Digital Photography
Bring your world into focus! Using tools of the trade such as DSLR cameras, studio lighting kits and Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, learn to plot, shoot, polish and present your work like a pro. Experiment with depth of field and shutter speed and study the elements of composition to capture visually stunning images. Study famous photographers for context and participate in group critiques to better understand your audience as you create a portfolio of work that expresses your point of view as a photographer.
Digital Filmmaking
Get comfortable in the director’s chair as you write, direct, shoot and edit your own short film! Discover the secrets of storytelling and write a screenplay using the industry standard format, then learn to effectively communicate your concept to a group. With a production team of your peers, use digital video cameras to capture and frame images, and iMovie to edit your video. Once your memorable movie is in the can, share your filmmaker’s voice with the world when you screen your masterpiece for family and friends in an end-of-session showcase.
Cartoon Workshop*
Write, draw, design and produce your own comic book in this major developed with the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center. Learn about the cultural impact of cartoonists throughout history and tap your imagination to generate innovative story ideas. Practice drawing in your sketchbook, then use bristol boards, archival ink pens and book making materials to produce your comic, and use image manipulation and desktop publishing software to digitize it. Take home your comic book in both physical and digital form, along with a collection of books from your fellow cartoonists!

Painter’s Studio
Pick up a palette and join the GSQ Painter’s Studio, where artists of all levels come to create. Explore the secrets of perspective and color theory in this major developed with the de Young Museum, then use professional grade water colors, acrylics, charcoal, artist pencils, brushes and palette knives to commit your creation to canvas. Participate in group critiques to practice discussing your work and the work of your peers, learn the importance of revision and hone your painter’s eye. Complete a collection of paintings, then curate your own end-of-session gallery show!
Fashion Design*
Be fashion forward this summer as you make your style vision a runway reality. Learn about the history of fashion and consider what your unique point of view can add to the conversation. Sketch designs, create patterns and use industrial grade sewing machines to give old clothing new life and make entirely new garments, accessories and customized bags to fit your style. Conceive and construct a fabulous fashion line to express who you are as a designer and how you want to inspire your audience.
