Help Us Find a Great Staff for Summer 2010!

You’ve seen us in action. You’ve walked through the fun machine and watched our crazy songs and skits. Your campers have designed amazing projects and been thoroughly drenched from Waterball.  You’ve seen our staff engage with your children and make them laugh, while teaching them to think creatively and love learning.

Galileo Learning only hires 10% of the thousands of people who apply,  and no one knows better than our families who would make an ideal Galileo staff member. Galileo Learning still has positions open in many of our 26 Bay Area locations.

We’re looking for dedicated, passionate, energetic, silly, fun people to join our team.  Have you always wanted to work at summer camp? Do you know someone who would be perfect for the job? Our application deadline is April 29, but we hire on a rolling basis, so please forward this email on and encourage interested candidates to apply now!  To apply simply click on the following link: www.galileo-learning.com/jobs

Here are some brief descriptions of our three summer camp programs and the positions available.

Camp Galileo:

Camp Galileo (K-5th grade) is a summer day camp which inspires kids to imagine new ideas, collaborate with peers and express themselves creatively. Kids enjoy art, science and outdoor programming every day, wrapped in fun camp traditions and delivered by highly enthusiastic staff. Our hands-on curriculum is developed in partnership with The Tech Museum of Innovation, de Young Museum and Klutz.

SUMMER INTERNs are typically high school students who participate in a wide variety of work experiences while having a great time at camp. They help Lead Instructors promote creativity and innovation with camper projects in the classroom setting, work with Team Leaders to create unified camp spirit by helping to lead teambuilding games, and gain administrative experience assisting the Operations Coordinator to help camp run smoothly.

TEAM LEADERs are typically college students or have recently graduated from college.  Team Leaders can grab a group of kids’ attention at a moment’s notice and get them moving!  They are the glue for our camps – and will be remembered forever by their teams.   Team Leaders will be intimately involved in supporting the overall camp program and will play an integral role in assisting the Art, Science, Outdoor, and Kindergarten Lead Instructors in their classrooms. Experience leading groups of kids and working with parents is helpful, but not required.

LEAD INSTRUCTORs are typically college graduates who have had experience working in the education field. Lead Instructors teach fantastic curriculum, engage in exploration and collaboration with campers, and develop professionally in their roles. Lead Instructors are teachers who go above and beyond, transforming their classrooms into magical worlds that fit the week’s theme.

OPERATIONS COORDINATORs are the administrative backbone to our summer camps.  Operations Coordinators will learn about camp operations, project management, and leadership. The ideal candidate is someone who is highly organized, can multi-task, takes initiative, is computer savvy, and has project management experience. Operations Coordinators support the Camp Director with administrative projects such as camper check-in, staff scheduling and lunch supervision.  Great for organizational gurus or teachers who love kids, but want to take a little break from the classroom this summer!

Galileo Summer Quest:

Galileo Summer Quest (5th-8th grade) is a fun summer day camp where students dive into subjects they are passionate about or want to explore. Campers choose from a selection of inspiring Majors and Minors taught by experienced instructors. They also develop their teamwork skills, while creating strong connections with peers who share their interests.

MAJORS AND MINOR INSTRUCTORs are upper level college students, college graduates and professional educators who are experienced in their subject matter and confident in leading groups of kids in 5th-8th grades in a non-traditional educational setting. They must embrace a love of learning, should be passionate about their subject matter, and excited to share that passion with middle school kids. They should also flexible, patient, and ready to inspire a new generation of learners. Current Major and Minor openings include:

  • Fashion Design
  • Green Design
  • Kitchen Chemistry
  • Science of Explosions
  • Jr. M.D.
  • Magazine Makers
  • Digital Photography
  • Video Game Design
  • Claymation
  • Hip Hop Dance
  • Improv
  • Jewelry Makers
  • Sports Medley

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORs are typically college students or recent graduates who have the unique ability to motivate kids and inspire creativity in middle school students. They are an integral part of the classroom support system, providing instructional and classroom management support to Lead Instructors. Assistant Instructors must combine a love for innovation and learning with patience, energy, and a positive attitude. They should also be team players, excited to work in a fun and fast paced environment. Experience leading groups of kids entering 5th-8th grade is extremely helpful and previous camp experience is a plus.

OPERATIONS COORDINATOR (see Camp Galileo description)

The Tech Museum Summer Camps:

The Tech Museum Summer Camps (4th-8th grade) feature hands-on science and technology classes, combined with camp traditions, teamwork and fun, at the world-class Tech Museum of Innovation. Campers gain in-depth knowledge, skill and confidence in areas they are passionate about, and work with expert instructors and peers who have similar interests.

LEAD INSTRUCTORs are professional educators who are experienced in their subject matter and confident in leading groups of 4th through 8th graders in a traditional or non-traditional educational setting. Talented graduate students could also be hired in this capacity. Lead Instructors will develop or refine their class’ curriculum, lead the class, manage their Assistant Instructors or Summer Interns, and take overall ownership for customer satisfaction.  They should embrace the Design Challenge methodology and work well with their fellow instructors and staff members. Lead Instructors should be serious and passionate about their subject matter but also flexible, patient, and fun with the campers.  Lead Instructors must have a Bachelor’s degree; previous camp experience is a plus. We are currently still looking for a COMPUTER PROGRAMMING Lead Instructor

To add to my comment above, one of the boys is a talented sketch artist and loves capoeira; the other is very gifted with computers. Both speak English quite well.

Are you able to hire kids from Mexico if they can get the J-1 visa? We have two almost-sons, ages 15 and 18, both of whom are sons of close friends and have lived with us here in San Rafael during summers. They are wonderful kids, and love working with younger children. Both have been interested in coming back to work in a camp setting. I suspect summer intern is the best position for them and don’t know if that even requires a visa. Is there someone I could talk to to find out more? We love Galileo and this could be a great fit.
