HOW TO READ THIS EMAIL: This Welcome Packet contains everything you need to know about attending Galileo Summer Quest this summer. Please read in its entirety before your first day of camp, as each section provides important information about your camp experience. Don't forget to click on the name of your camp site (below right) for location-specific details. Before camp begins, we ask that you review your original confirmation email, along with any subsequent emails you received confirming requested schedule changes. (Search for "Welcome to Galileo Learning" in your inbox to find these emails.) Clothing ::: back to top ::: Check-in ::: back to top ::: ADDING EXTENDED CARE/ADDITIONAL SESSIONS We offer Extended Care from 7:45-8:45am and 3:15-5:30pm. If space is still available, you may register for full sessions of Extended Care in advance by calling us or enrolling online. If you'd like to register for a la carte Extended Care days, and space is still available, you may do so when you arrive at camp. Please note: Do not rely on the a la carte option for last-minute care--many of our sites do not have Extended Care space available. ::: back to top ::: Friday ClosingOn the last Friday of the session at 2:10pm, parents are invited to attend Galileo Summer Quest's Friday Closing and Parent Presentations. You will hear from your Camp Director, experience some of the fun your camper has had over the last two weeks and rotate between presentations of your campers' Majors. As we encourage group work at Galileo Summer Quest, campers will have a combination of group projects that will remain at camp and individual projects that are theirs to keep. All campers working on group projects will be photographed with their projects; campers can take home individual projects on the last day of their session. Parent Surveys On Fridays at the end of each session, you will receive an email containing our weekly survey. Please take the time to complete this survey for every session your child attends, as we read them carefully and use your input to make improvements throughout the summer. We also encourage you to share any feedback with your Camp Director. The Daily Quest You will receive a copy of The Daily Quest newsletter every day at check-out. Please take a few minutes to read it carefully to learn what your camper did during the day, check for special announcements from your camp staff and discover ways to extend the Galileo Summer Quest experience beyond the camp day. ::: back to top ::: Lost and FoundEach camp site runs its own lost and found, and will keep these items in a designated spot throughout the summer. Please check the lost and found during the week and ask your Camp Director if you are still missing something specific. We are unable to store lost and found items once camp is over; after the final day of camp at each location, we will donate any unclaimed items. Sick Policy Galileo strives to maintain a healthy environment for our campers and staff. If your child is sick and there is any chance they are contagious, please do not send them to camp. Please also call the Camp Director to notify them of your camper's absence. If a camper becomes sick while at camp, we will call a parent to come pick him/her up. EpiPens If your child requires an EpiPen, please make sure you bring it to camp on Monday morning. All parents/guardians who have a child attending camp with an EpiPen will be required to sign an authorization form on the first day. All staff members have received training on how to administer an EpiPen in the event of an emergency. If you would like to discuss your child's situation in more detail with your Camp Director, please call him/her the week before. Camper Aides All camper aides must be approved by Galileo and complete a background check before camp begins. Please contact our Customer Service Team to make necessary arrangements. ::: back to top ::: Behavior IssuesA camper who disrupts the camp experience for others will receive three warnings, after which a parent will be contacted to pick him/her up. We have a zero tolerance policy for hitting or inflicting physical harm on other campers; in those cases, parents will be contacted to pick up their child immediately. Refunds will not be issued to campers who are asked to leave. What to Leave at Home We ask campers to please leave pets and electronic devices such as iPods, digital cameras, personal gaming devices and laptops at home. Cell phones are permitted on campus, but campers will not be allowed to use them during the day. Obviously, we do not allow weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or other banned substances at camp. Thank you! Emergency Preparedness Camp Galileo has created a plan in case of fire, earthquake and other emergency situations. For medical emergencies, we will use the hospital closest each camp location. Additionally, at least two staff members certified in child first aid and CPR are at camp at all times. Camp Directors will contact parents immediately if a child is injured in any way. If you need to contact your child or a staff member during camp, please refer to the Camp Director contact information below. The cross streets are Embarcadero Road and El Camino Real. From 101 (North or South): Exit at Oregon Expressway and turn right at El Camino Real. Turn right into the school's secondary entrance directly across from the Stanford Stadium and look for Galileo Summer Quest signs! From 280 (North or South): Exit Page Mill Road and veer towards Page Mill Road. Turn Left on El Camino Real and left onto Embarcadero. Enter through the school's main entrance on Embarcadero, directly across from the Town and Country Shopping Center. Follow the signs for Galileo Summer Quest.
